PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a man was shot in Providence Thursday evening.

The man was shot in the back while walking down Smith Street, according to police. Investigators believe the gunshots came from a car that was driving by.

The victim was conscious and alert while being transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

It’s unclear whether police have any suspects.
