The new high school in East Providence has been hit with controversy over a “punch list” of issues raised by Tony Ferreira, a member of the East Providence School Committee. According to Ferreira, concerns have built up over the past 18 months over a range of issues that include everything from cracked sidewalks and doors that are missing screws to backed-up toilets and poorly performing retention ponds. The full list of 42 items, which only includes a handful marked “completed,” has been kept secret and is discussed only in executive session. Despite the fears of some that taxpayers may end up footing the bill for repairs, representatives for the school district have stated that Gilbane Building Company is fully responsible for all repairs.
