The latest Walt Disney Co. animation to receive the live-action treatment is “Moana”, with one star confirmed to return. During a call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the production is in the early stages and that Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as the demigod Maui. The film drew inspiration from Polynesian myths and was a commercial success in 2016, grossing $643.3 million worldwide. Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the original animation, will serve as an executive producer on the live-action remake. Johnson expressed his excitement to once again take on the role of Maui, a character he says represents the “mana and spirit” of his heritage.
