Jorge Elorza has announced his next move after stepping down as Providence mayor. He will be taking up a role as CEO of Democrats for Education Reform (DFER), an affiliate of non-partisan organization Education Reform Now. DFER is focused on policy development and supporting democrat leaders to ensure all students have access to high-quality education. During his tenure, Elorza invested $400 million in building repairs to improve the city’s underperforming schools, supported public charter schools’ expansion, and led the African American Ambassador Group initiative. Elorza said he was honored to serve DFER at a time of incredible possibility and urgency for the nation’s students. Before serving as a mayor, he co-founded the Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University, where he was a law professor.
