More than 50,000 hoverboards made by Jetson Electric are being recalled due to the risk of catching fire, as reported by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall was initiated after an incident in which two young girls died in a house fire last spring, which investigators later attributed to the 42-volt Jetson Rogue hoverboard owned by the family. The lithium-ion batteries used in the hoverboards can overheat and catch fire, as reported by Jetson Electric, and the company has received numerous complaints of the product “burning, sparking or melting”. The recalled hoverboards were sold nationwide in Target stores and are available in several colors, including black, blue, red, pink and purple. Consumers who have purchased one of the recalled products are urged to discontinue use and contact Jetson Electric for information on how to properly dispose of the product and receive a full refund.
