Gap is set to close its store in the Providence Place mall, one of its longest-standing tenants. The store, which is on the second floor near Boscov’s, has posted signs advertising a 30% off sale, stating that the location is closing and the entire store is on sale. Gap had previously announced its intention to close 350 Gap and Banana Republic stores in North America by the end of 2023, with store count falling from 1,027 to 912. The store in Providence opened in 1999 and was among the first to call Providence Place home. The closure does not appear to impact Banana Republic stores in Providence and Newport.
