The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has launched a contest calling on college students to design billboards promoting safe driving for National Work Zone Awareness Week. The theme for this year’s contest is “You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us.” Transportation Secretary and CEO Gina Fiandaca hopes that the contest will raise awareness about the importance of following traffic laws in work zones. The contest is open to all Massachusetts college and university students, and entries will be judged on appearance, quality of design, and connection to the theme. The three winning billboards will be displayed along Massachusetts highways during construction season. The winners will be announced in May at the 2023 MassDOT Transportation Innovation Conference, as well as on MassDOT’s social media pages and website. The contest deadline is Friday, April 21.
