The Vatican has reported that Pope Francis is recovering well after being hospitalized with a respiratory infection. Despite having suffered breathing problems for a few days, the 86-year-old pontiff is said to be improving and was working from his hospital room at Rome’s Gemelli hospital. While his audiences have been canceled through Friday, he is scheduled to celebrate Palm Sunday this weekend, and it remains uncertain how his medical condition would affect the Vatican’s Holy Week observances. The pope had previously undergone surgery for diverticulosis and had part of his lung removed in his youth. His hospitalization marks the first since his previous surgery in July 2021.
