East Matunuck State Beach in South Kingstown, Rhode Island will be closed for two weeks starting on April 3. Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental Management (DEM) stated that crews need to complete a construction project that added a third lane to the entrance and improved storm water controls for better infiltration systems. The parking lot will be fully closed, and parking along Succotash Road is forbidden. The project, which will cost around $700,000, was funded through the 2021 Green Economy bond using state capital funds. DEM Director Terry Gray said the project aims to reduce traffic in and out of the parking lot and capture storm water runoff from the lot.
