This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Hazel Hegstrom, a Wheeler School 4th grader from East Providence, R.I. She has earned a spot in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National, after taking home the 7-9 year old Regional crown in a sport she has been playing for three years. Hegstrom started playing golf when she received her first golf set as a birthday gift for her 6th birthday, and has since worked on building her game. Her favorite club is her putter named Cotton Tail, which is blue and white. When not playing golf, Hegstrom can be found watching PGA and LPGA professionals on TV, with Nellie Korda being her favorite player. She aspires to follow Korda’s path to the Tour someday. Hegstrom hopes to make it to the top five in the upcoming tournament and collect autographs from the players competing in the Master’s Tournament. If you know a Hometown Sports Hero, you can nominate them by emailing sports@wpri.com.
