The Bristol County District Attorney’s office announced that a New Bedford man was sentenced to five to seven years in state prison for a drunk-driving crash that took the life of David Dos Santos, a father of two from Dartmouth in 2018. Justin Castro, 31, pleaded guilty to motor vehicle manslaughter. Dos Santos was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car crash which occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2018, at the intersection of Kempton Street and Brownell Avenue. Castro’s blood-alcohol content was found to be .228, nearly three times the legal limit, and was driving 61 mph in a 35 mph zone before the accident. District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said that “this case is a tragedy for all people involved.” The accompanying image remains.
