Phillip Eng, an experienced transit engineer, has been appointed as the new general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority by Governor Maura Healey. Eng previously served as the President of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Long Island Rail Road and interim President of New York City Transit, and is currently the executive vice president at engineering consultant group The LiRo Group. Eng’s appointment comes as the troubled public transit agency has been under intense scrutiny for safety issues resulting in a federal review and a series of orders to resolve the problems. Eng intends to find innovative solutions that always put customers first to restore public trust in the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Jeff Gonneville, who served as interim general manager, will assist with management transition.
