A Portsmouth man named Celio Da Silva Aleixo, 39, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after a car accident occurred late Friday night. As per the police, the accident took place around 11 PM, near the area of East Main Rd. and Sea Meadow Dr. Two vehicles had collided head-on – a northbound SUV had crossed the double yellow lines and hit a southbound pick-up. Reports show that Da Silva Aleixo displayed signs of inebriation and was arrested. The driver of the pick-up truck remained unnamed but sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Da Silva Aleixo has been charged with DUI resulting in serious bodily injury and refusal to submit to a chemical test, and was released on $5,000 surety bail. He will appear in court next week, and the incident remains under investigation by the Portsmouth Police Detective Division and the Portsmouth Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
