The Rhode Island Foundation has unveiled its 2023 Policy Framework for improving the state’s public education system. The Long-Term Education Planning Committee developed plans for education improvement in Rhode Island in 2018, and the release of the 10-year plan in 2020 called Chart a Course, Stay the Course. The policy recommends several actions like providing incentives for recruiting and retaining teachers, creating a state fund for professional development, adjusting the state funding formula, and amending the state constitution. The committee aims to make public education a fundamental right by adding it to the state constitution. The Rhode Island Senate passed a bill supporting this change, and the House will now need to approve it before it’s approved to be on the ballot.
