A rifle belonging to the Massachusetts State Police was reportedly stolen from a locked cruiser parked in a garage where a trooper lived in Malden. The theft is believed to have occurred Wednesday night or early Thursday after the front driver’s seat lock was broken. The patrol rifle and ammunition stolen were inside a locked compartment within the cruiser. The incident has been described as a sophisticated break-in by former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. Officials hope surveillance footage from the garage will help identify a suspect. The cruiser has been taken away as part of the investigation.
