Olivia Pichardo of Brown University made history by becoming the first woman to appear in a DI baseball game while pinch-hitting last week. Her helmet, which she wore during the game, has been selected to be part of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s collection in Cooperstown, New York. The 18-year-old from New York City earned a spot on the spring 2023 roster following a successful walk-on tryout. According to nonprofit organization Baseball for All, nearly 20 women have been named to baseball rosters at the college level, but none in DI.
