Boston Bruins icon Zdeno Chara is set to participate in his first-ever marathon. Instead of his usual skates, he will be donning a pair of sneakers for the Boston Marathon, which will take place next month. Chara took to Instagram to reveal that his participation is for a good cause as he aims to support the Thomas E. Smith Foundation & the Hoyt Foundation. Chara paid tribute to Dick and Rick Hoyt for motivating the Bruins to win the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship. He also commended Tom Smith for his passion and dedication to helping those affected by paralysis. Chara spent 14 seasons with the Bruins and helped them lift the Stanley Cup in 2011. After playing for the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders for a season each, Chara returned to Boston and signed a one-day contract to retire as a Bruin. Fans can donate ahead of the April 17 race to support Chara’s cause.
