Law enforcement officials in New York are preparing for the possibility of former President Donald Trump’s indictment and subsequent appearance in a Manhattan courtroom. The investigation in question examines hush money paid to women who accused him of sexual encounters. The preparations are preliminary and involve considering the practicalities of a potential court appearance by a former president. Trump’s lawyer has stated that they will follow normal procedures if he is indicted. Witnesses include former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, as well as Stormy Daniels and former aides Kellyanne Conway and Hope Hicks. Cohen has previously claimed that at Trump’s direction, he arranged for payments to Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal to buy their silence about the former president, who denied the allegations. Although federal prosecutors never charged Trump with any crime, Cohen pleaded guilty, served prison time and was disbarred.
