The police union in East Providence, Rhode Island, is expressing concern over the unsafe condition of their police station. Detective Cpl. Kurt Ripke, president of International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 569, claims that the station’s roof has been leaking for years and that their complaints have not been addressed by city leaders. The union is also worried about the deplorable state of the prisoners’ area and the lack of space for evidence processing. Mayor Bob DaSilva denies the allegations, stating that the city has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into the building’s renovation and is actively searching for vendors to repair the roof. Defense vehicles are being stored off-site mostly because of the space issue. DaSilva says the process takes time due to the bidding and funding process involved, and he plans to bring change to the situation little by little.
