Rhode Islanders are flocking to the Original Italian Bakery for zeppole in preparation for St. Joseph’s Day. The cream-filled pastry’s shape is significant, resembling a carpentry plane, which Saint Joseph was known for using. This year, the bakery celebrated selling its millionth zeppola and aims to sell 60,000 by Easter Sunday. The bakery offers six flavors, including traditional yellow cream, Bailey’s Irish cream, chocolate, pistachio, raspberry with whipped cream, and ricotta. The traditional zeppola is the top seller. The Original Italian Bakery is open from 7 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday and 7 am to 6 pm on Sundays. Customers can order ahead online or by phone and can purchase four-packs of traditional yellow cream zeppole for $11.99.
