A man convicted of murdering an elderly man in Rhode Island in 1982 will remain in prison for at least another five years after the state parole board unanimously denied his parole request. This was the eighth time the man had appeared before the board seeking his release. He was caught by the victim looking through his desk for money and proceeded to beat the victim to death with a hammer. The family of the victim, including his three granddaughters, provided victim impact statements to the board and expressed their relief that the man will remain behind bars. They also noted that he has never shown remorse and does not appear to be capable of rehabilitation.
