The police in Cranston issued a warning on Tuesday regarding an increase in thefts and attempted thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles in the Edgewood neighborhood. According to the police, vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2021 lack an anti-theft device called an immobilizer, making them easy targets for thieves who can bypass the ignition system and hot-wire the vehicles. Owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles were asked to be vigilant, and anyone with information or video of suspicious behavior was urged to call Cranston detectives at (401) 942-2211.
