The residential skyscraper project, known as the “Fane Tower,” will not be constructed in Providence after the Fane Organization opted not to continue with the project. The chairman of the I-195 Commission, Marc Crisafulli, confirmed that the developers were in the middle of negotiating a new design approval with the state commission, but that their contractual rights would lapse later in the month. Developer Jason Fane attributed the decision to factors beyond his control and said the previous design was no longer practical due to increased building costs. The proposed tower was a controversial subject, attracting both support and criticism from state leaders and local residents.
