The Middletown Police Department reported the arrest of eight individuals for DUI during and after Newport’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Additionally, there were 54 motor vehicle stops, 42 warnings, and 12 citations issued. Fortunately, there were no motor vehicle accidents or traffic fatalities during the parade. Thanks to DUI/Blue Riptide Grants, Middletown police were able to provide two extra officers and scheduled two additional officers due to the increased traffic. The department’s goal is to reduce accidents, enforce DUI laws, and ensure safe travel in the town. More information regarding incidents or arrests from Newport will be available on Monday.
