A 10-year-old student was arrested after bringing a firearm to Monroe Elementary School in Maine on Friday, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Police responded to a report of the student having the weapon just before 9 a.m. and worked with the school staff to seize the firearm and detain the student. The student was then taken into custody and there was no ongoing threat to the school or the community. The incident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The school district did not comment on the incident. Other elementary schools across the US have also experienced similar incidents involving young children bringing firearms to school in recent years.
