Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos is reportedly planning to enter the Democratic primary for the 1st Congressional District seat currently held by David Cicilline, who will resign on June 1 to become CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation. Matos would be the first notable Democrat to enter the race. Cicilline has held the seat since 2010, and several other Democrats are said to be considering a bid, including state Sen. Sandra Cano, Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien, and Biden White House official Gabe Amo. The primary is expected to take place in August or September, with the actual date yet to be determined.
