RIPTA CEO Scott Avedisian faced scrutiny from lawmakers on Monday regarding the agency’s day-to-day operations. This came a month after Senate President Dominick Ruggerio requested Avedisian’s resignation and announced plans to move RIPTA under the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. During the hearing, Avedisian was questioned about various issues, including a cyberattack that leaked personal data and a shortage of bus drivers that left some students stranded. Lawmakers also expressed concern about RIPTA’s finances, as the agency is projected to lose $33 to $47 million after federal COVID-19 relief funds expire. Despite defending his record, Avedisian has not indicated any plans to resign.
