A longtime firefighter, Battalion Chief Jim Varin, passed away last week after battling occupational cancer for over a year. He served Providence for 31 years and was most recently on Ladder 3 in the Wanskuck neighborhood. Varin’s funeral took place on Monday, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to say goodbye. He is survived by his wife and two sons. A tweet showed the funeral procession making its way to the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul for the service.
