A man from Massachusetts was arrested for attempting to open an emergency door and attacking a flight attendant on a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston. Francisco Severo Torres, 33, asked about the door handle before takeoff and tampered with the door’s locking handle and the emergency slide arming level. Shortly before landing, the cockpit received an alert and a flight attendant noticed the tampering. Torres was seen near the door and, when confronted, asked if there were cameras on the plane that could prove his actions. He later thrust toward a flight attendant with a broken metal spoon but was tackled and restrained by passengers. Torres has been charged with interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon. He is being held until his court date, scheduled for March 9.
