This morning, snow and sleet measuring 1-3 inches arrived and was followed by heavy rain, causing a messy mix on roads. It’s advisable to exercise extra caution while driving this morning as even your front steps could be slick. In Western Kent, Providence and northern Bristol County in Massachusetts, there is a Winter Weather Advisory effective until 7PM. Sloppy road conditions are expected, particularly in the morning. Before the rain, there was 1-3 inches of snowfall that took place north and west of I-295 in RI and MA. For the south coasts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, a Wind Advisory is in effect due to the possibility of wind gusts reaching up to 50mph from the east and northeast. Stronger winds are expected on the Cape, and winds have already hit gusts of 40-50mph in our area. Between 5-8AM this morning in and around the western half of Narragansett Bay, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect at the time of high tide (6AM), with minor coastal flooding being possible. Anticipate mainly rain across the board this morning (barring some residual mix along the northern RI border). By late morning, the steady precipitation, which is expected to be in the upper 30s, will taper off. This afternoon, lingering rain showers will turn into snow showers. We are not expecting additional snow accumulation today as highs today will be in the mid to upper 30s. Hour by Hour, a glance at the expected weather conditions. Tonight, after an early evening snow shower, skies will partially clear. Sunday will feature partly sunny skies and dry conditions, and the afternoon highs will be within the mid to upper 40s. In the afternoon, the winds will pick up a bit from the northwest 10-15mph, and the Ski Report will provide an update on New England’s weather forecast and resort conditions. -Meteorologist T.J.
