The Rhode Island Blood Center is urging for more donations following the recent snowstorm that caused a significant number of missed appointments, resulting in low donor turnout and cancelled blood drives. The state’s blood supply is currently at critically low levels, with type O and platelets supply reaching a crisis level. The Blood Center requires 250 donations each day to maintain the standard seven-day supply level, which is not currently being met. The organization is incentivizing donations this month with a chance to win wireless earbuds. Caitlin Grimaldi-Flick, the Blood Center spokesperson, stated that it’s essential for first-time and lapsed donors to make an appointment during this critical time period to help stabilize the blood supply.
