Applicants are selected with regard to financial need, GPA, and an evaluation of the student’s practicum experience.

Established in honor of the parents of Mrs. Darkartsch (J. Aldus ’24 and Mildred Hale ’23 Rinehart), and other members of the Rinehart and Hale families who graduated from Juniata College. Income from this scholarship is to be awarded at the end of the sophomore year to a promising student for study abroad during the junior year in the field of education, with a preference given to elementary education majors. Applicants are selected with regard to financial need, GPA, and an evaluation of the student’s practicum experience. The applicant must submit an essay explaining how his/her education program is enhanced through study abroad and what he/she will do upon return to share understanding of education principles and methods in the host country. Selection shall be made by the Provost in consultation with the Department of Education. Fulfillment of the commitment must be completed during the senior year.
