Eligibility:

Work-related interactions will be in English.
-The research focus is flexible and those with plant, non-plant, or theoretical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Research in the Levine group focuses on two general problems: (1) the maintenance of species diversity in communities and (2) the determinants of the success and impacts of biological invasions. Current coexistence projects explore how individual variation influences the outcome of competitive interactions, the effect of fluctuating climate on plant coexistence, and the role of plant pathogens in shaping community composition. Current invasions projects explore the Read the rest of this entry »

HIV & Drug Use Research Fellowship

Description:
With the support of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the International AIDS Society (IAS) has established a research fellowship programme focusing on HIV and drug use, with the goal of contributing to advances in the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV, while fostering international collaborative research on HIV and drug use.

The fellowship programme is awarded as a stipend of US$75,000 in two categories: to a junior scientist for 18-month post-doctoral training, or to a well-established HIV researcher for an eight-month-long professional development training at leading host institutes excelling in HIV-related drug use research.

In 2011, up to four fellowships will be awarded. The fellows and their mentors will be invited to attend the IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention (IAS 2011), to be held in Rome, Italy, on 17-20 July 2011, where the awards ceremony will be held.

Eligibility

Postdoctoral training: Junior investigators with a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD) obtained no more than six years before the time of application in the fields of behavioural and social sciences, biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, medicine, physics or public health (other disciplines may also be considered) are eligible. Applicants must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent before the start of the fellowship, but not necessarily when applying. Read the rest of this entry »

One Postdoctoral and one PhD Position in Over-Expression, Biochemistry and Structure of Membrane Transport Proteins, Switzerland

Our vision is to assess the structure, supramolecular organization and dynamics of membrane transport proteins by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray crystallography (XRC). To this end, we clone, over-express, purify and crystallize transport proteins in 2- (2D) and 3-dimensions (3D). 2D crystals are analyzed by TEM/electron crystallography and AFM, while 3D crystals by XRC. Tasks of the successful candidates will involve cloning, over-expression and purification of pro- and eukaryotic membrane transport proteins for functional and structural studies. Our work is part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) TransCure – From transport physiology to identification of therapeutic targets.
