Job description
With the support of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the International AIDS Society (IAS) has established a research fellowship programme focusing on HIV and drug use, with the goal of contributing to advances in the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV, while fostering international collaborative research on HIV and drug use.

The fellowship programme is awarded as a stipend of US$75,000 in two categories: to a junior scientist for 18-month post-doctoral training, or to a well-established HIV researcher for an eight-month-long professional development training at leading host institutes excelling in HIV-related drug use research. In 2012, up to four fellowships will be awarded. Successful applicants will be invited to the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012), in Washington D.C. 22-27 July 2012, where the awards ceremony will be held.

Eligibility:
-A recognized and active member of an indigenous community;
-An established track record in advising on and researching legal issues relating to indigenous peoples and the law and practice of intellectual property;
-Legal qualifications, or equivalent in practical expertise and community work, preferably with specific components relating to intellectual property law or closely related areas of law;
-Ability to work effectively in English, and to work fluently in and prepare documents suitable for publication in at least one of the six UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish);
-A record of publications (general awareness raising, formal legal analysis, or scholarly publications) and/or participation in community consultations and outreach would be an advantage;
