Noble Group Fellowships for Chinese Students and Scholars 2011, Israel
Fellowships for the Applicants of China in W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Israel-2011
Funds for these fellowships have been provided by the Noble Group of Hong Kong. The purpose is to provide Chinese students and scholars in the humanities an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of current research in Near Eastern Studies in Israel, to provide them with scholarly resources not available to them in their home institutions, and to offer them opportunities to interact with both local and foreign scholars through the Albright’s fellowship program.
These fellowships are open to Chinese doctoral students and post-doctoral candidates in any area within the interests of the Albright. Candidates can either be studying or in residence in China or doing research at institutions in other countries.
The award of each of the three fellowships for a period of nine months (September, 2011 – May, 2012) is $25,000, which covers a stipend including all accommodations and subsistence, travel and shipping costs. Read the rest of this entry »

The Orion Center invites applications for its research grants (up to $2000). Preference is given to junior scholars (Ph.D. students and post doctoral students).
The grants are for research on the Dead Sea Scrolls and associated literature in all relevant disciplines. Preference is given to integrative studies involving the Scrolls and other aspects of Second Temple studies. Research connected with the grant must be carried out in Israel; grant recipients will be associated with the Orion Center and participate in Center programs.

Major scientific projects of the laboratory include:
1). The role of inflammation in the malignant process (carcinogenesis, tumor invasion and metastasis, tumor angiogenesis and interactions of the tumor with the host’s immune system).
2). Interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling in sterile inflammation and angiogenesis in the malignant process
3). Mechanisms and signaling pathways of novel intracellular non-secretable isoforms of the cytokine IL-1a.
4). Intervention in IL-1 expression in anti-tumor therapeutic approaches.
Techniques used in the laboratory include tissue culture and in vitro
work, molecular biology techniques and in vivo work. These are applied to cutting-edge issues in cytokine and tumor immunobiology, stem cell biology and angiogenesis. Excellent teamwork and atmosphere.
