Available to students who have completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Tasmania, or another Australian university, and who will be undertaking a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program at UTAS in 2012. Applications will be assessed by the following criteria: (a) results achieved at undergraduate level; (b) evidence of initiative, research skills and general aptitude of the applicant as provided by the referees; (c) evidence of research strength in line with the Faculty’s research capacity and strength as provided by the research proposal; and (d) availability of an appropriate supervisor and the capacity of the School to provide support for the proposed project.

Experience/background in carbonate sedimentology, coral reef biology and geology and/or numerical modelling of earth systems would be a real advantage. Fieldwork experience will also be considered.

This scholarship is funded by a joint ARC Discovery grant (2012-2015) between University of Queensland, University of Sydney, and Queensland University of Technology, and will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD.
