Research Position in Ghana:Economics of Human Waste in Agriculture

Postdoctoral position at International Water Management Institute Accra, Ghana for International Applicants

If you have recently completed your PhD in Economics or Sanitation and have a sound understanding of both, then this could be just the assignment for you. Based at IWMI”s West Africa Office in Accra, Ghana, you will analyze business opportunities for enterprise development related to resource recovery from human waste, be it in agriculture or other sectors, and then form policy recommendations to enhance livelihoods in the rural/urban interface.
You will:
• provide economic and institutional analysis for projects that explore, for example:
o sustainability indicators of low-cost wastewater treatment options across Africa
o Agricultural reuse-oriented approaches into the sanitation sector to recover nutrients, water and energy from waste streams whilst
improving environmental sanitation in Ghana
o Role of small and micro-enterprises that specialize in waste reuse in Ghana, Vietnam and Uganda
o How to enhance the success of private ventures in solid and liquid waste collection and reuse
• study national agricultural and sanitation policies and regulations examining relevant economic, organizational, institutional and financial issues to inform policymakers through the development and application of economic decision tools/models for recovery of nutrients, organic matter, energy and water from waste streams

Western Cape Provincia Government Scholarships for Social Development Clinical Social Work Honour Students, South Africa

Scholarship at University of Cape Town for Students having Bachelor’s degree and applicants who have been employed as social work professionals either in provincial Government or in a non-governmental professional field

Funds have been made available by the PGWC to meet the need and demand for professional specialist social workers in the treatment of substance abuse.
Applications are invited for a number of scholarships that are available to support students who will register in 2011 for full time study in the Department of Social Development at the University of Cape Town, and who will study specifically in the field of substance abuse.
The scholarship programme aims to encourage further education and specialist training of social work professionals in substance abuse interventions who work in either Provincial Government or non-governmental professional settings.
Academic Criteria
Eligible candidates will have a relevant Bachelor’s degree and applicants who have been employed as social work professionals either in provincial Government or in a non-governmental professional field are encouraged to apply.

Africa Initiative Research Exchange Program for Candian and African Students

Scholarship opportunities for African and Canadian students who are enrolled in masters and PhD program at Canadian and African university

Africa Initiative exchange program supports short-term academic placements for Africans and Canadians undertaking research on Africa. The program is building capacity by giving bright, highly-motivated students and scholars an opportunity to discover and impart new learning in a cross-cultural experience. Supported research covers five thematic areas – conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, and migration, with special attention to the cross-cutting issue of climate change.

Participants have the opportunity to further their research through the utilization of on-the-ground resources and research materials, as well as to develop international networks with fellow researchers and practitioners conducting work in a relevant field of study. Research results are presented and disseminated through a variety of public channels.

Climate Science Research Partnership for Resident Nationals of an African Country

Fellowships are offered as part of the Climate Science Research Partnership (CSRP) between the Met Office Hadley Centre (MOHC) and the Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK government. The CSRP aims are to improve the understanding and prediction of African climate on monthly, seasonal and decadal timescales and to strengthen climate science capacity in Africa.

Call for Applications is extended to climate researchers and applied climate scientists/practitioners working in the field of African climate variability and change. Applicants must be resident nationals of an African country.

Three types of Fellowships are available:

* Postgraduate Research Fellowships (maximum 12 months duration)
* Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships (maximum 12 months duration)
* Applications Project Fellowships (maximum 6 months duration)

Petroleum Technology Development Fund- PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for its postgraduate – MSc & PhD – Scholarships as well as Undergraduate, under the PTDF scholarship scheme for Nigerian students.

Eligibility Requirement
Only applicants who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for Electronic Aptitude Test for Undergraduate and MSc, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD applicants on dates to be announced later.
