Biological Invasions Bursaries 2011, Department of Botany and Zoology, Stellenbosch University, South Africa
Positions available: 3 x Hons; 2 x MSc; 1 x PhD; 1 x Post-doc
As part of SANBI’s Early Detection and Rapid Response Programme (funded through the Working for Water Programme of the Department of Water Affairs), several bursaries are available to conduct research on various aspects of managing new invasions.
A range of projects are available including topics on molecular phylogenetics, GIS mapping, taxonomy, population modelling, social science, history, mathematical ecology, and evolutionary biology. Submitted topics in line with EDRR’s goals will also be considered.
Requirements:
Candidates must be pro-active, enthusiastic, and interested in doing excellent research that can make a difference.
Bursary Values (to cover living expenses and university fees)
Honours/4th year undergraduate R 25 000 p.a. for 1 year
• Masters R 60 000 p.a. for 2 years
• Doctoral R 80 000 p.a. for 3 years
• Post-doctoral R150,000 p.a. for 2 years
Project running expenses will be covered separately and will vary depending on the project.
Student bursaries are open to all South African citizens, and post-doctoral research bursaries are open to anyone who has completed their PhD in the last five years.
