PhD student is expected to be enthused about seabirds, capable of independent as well as collaborative work and have good skills in modelling as well as spatial data analyses. We are looking for a highly motivated graduate student who is interested in the ecology of seabird movements and has a Master’s degree in Biology/Ecology. The applicant should have an education in biology with ecology as a specialization. Required for the position are good programming skills, knowledge in modeling, and have experience from evaluations of tracking data and GIS. Required is also experience with handling of birds, and especially work with seabirds, and own experience from use of one or more of the techniques to be applied in the project. Successful M. Sc. candidate will work on the development of Controllers for Variable Speed Wind Energy Conversion Systems. We are seeking graduates with good academic background in Physics, Materials Science, Metallurgy or other relevant field to work on this project. Scholarships of $23,728 per annum (2012 rate, indexed annually) for three years are available for Australian and New Zealand students. International students with an exceptional academic background will also considered. In the third year of the project, scholars may also apply for a 6 month extension to the scholarship on research related grounds.

Scholarship Description: A Ph.D. scholarship is available within the Discipline of Physics at The University of Newcastle to work on the design and characterisation of new plasmonic materials. This is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery research project and it will be conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Nanoscale Technology at the University of Technology (UTS).
