It is responsible directly for 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which, since 1990, have grown in absolute terms by 26%, this is 60% faster per year than those produced by the agriculture sector. In the commercial sector 54% of fuel usage is electricity, making it vulnerable to supply and transmission problems as well as future carbon costs and supply. Understanding how energy and water resources are used in today’s commercial buildings will make it possible to use them more efficiency and so enhance New Zealand’s sustainability. An efficiency improvement of 10% would give a $90m return. Read the rest of this entry »
