Outstanding candidates comfortable in the Linux computing environment, and from backgrounds in physical chemistry, biology, chemical engineering and physics are invited to apply. Knowledge of computer simulations is desired, but can be acquired during the job. The candidate will be working on an interdisciplinary project involving molecular biophysics, structural biology and computer simulations. This project will use all-atom and coarse-grained simulations, to investigate the fundamental molecular basis of ion transport in biological membranes and ion pump

The candidate must have a strong interest in employing inorganic chemistry and experimental characterization techniques to solve environmental problems in freshwater biology. He/she is expected to have a Master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related degree with significant chemistry curriculum e.g. through course or thesis work. The applicant should be highly motivated, independent and able to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Travel to international research facilities and field trips are an integral part of the project.
We have an opening for a PhD project to work on phosphate remediation in freshwater bodies using physical, analytical and environmental chemistry. This interdisciplinary project involves researchers at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy (PCP) and Centre for Lake Restoration (CLEAR), Institute of Biology, University of Southern Denmark. Applicants should have solid mathematical, telecommunications or electrical engineering background, a particular interest in applying sophisticated mathematical skills in studying large-scale highly dynamic or complex networks. The scholarship is mainly intended for PhD candidates however Master-by-Research candidates with a good academic record may also be considered provided that the applicant is determined to take a PhD study after Master completion. Successful applicants are expected to start their enrolment at the University of Sydney in Semester 1 or 2, 2012. Both national and international students may apply; however, funding does not cover any tuition fees payable by international students.
Three full-time postgraduate scholarships are available for suitably qualified candidates with a good honours degree or equivalent in science or engineering to undertake research studies leading to Master-by-Research or PhD in telecommunication networks. The scholarships are funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Projects. The project will develop scientific tools for the modelling, characterization, network architecture design and communication strategies design of highly dynamic networks, with a particular focus on intelligent transport systems and smart grids. The aim is to develop fundamental methodologies, built on a solid understanding of the characteristics of these networks, that provide design principles and management guidelines for these networks.
