A suitable background for this position would be a PhD degree in biology/medicine/biophysics specialised in the contribution of ion channels and pumps to the membrane properties of neurones. Important for the planned project is experience in whole-cell patch clamp recording from brain slice preparations and cell culture. Experience in calcium imaging from neuronal preparations. Familiarity with immunofluorescence staining. The position will also require independent work in addition to collaborative skills and creative thinking. -Wide knowledge of fluid dynamics including compressible flow transition and turbulent flow.

This studentship will focus on research into the progressive collapse of naval vessels built from both steel and aluminium.
