Applicants should have a BSc in biomedical science (or equivalent) and a MSc with strong academic record to apply to competitive PhD fellowships. Applicants should be highly motivated in the field of stem cell, developmental biology and regeneration and be familiar with developmental biology techniques. Basic knowledge of programming or zebrafish manipulation will be strongly encouraged.
The inner ear is a highly complex sensory organ that allows us to communicate with the external world. Sensory information is captured by specialized sensory cells that emerge during development in a precise temporal and spatial order. This PhD project will address the question on how FGF and Retinoic Acid signals regulate the development and regeneration of sensory cells and how extrinsic signals are integrated at a molecular level. Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or a relevant field and have experience of mammalian tissue culture, protein biochemistry and signal transduction.
-Experience of biological mass spectrometry (nLC-ESI-MS), quantitative proteomics or phospho-proteomics and bioinformatics will be a distinct advantage.
-The post-holder must be keen to evaluate and analyse data of heterogeneous types and apply computational biology and bioinformatics (including statistics, machine learning and sequence analysis) to reach a deeper understanding of data at hand. We are seeking highly motivated, bright researchers and our lab is a dynamic, highly productive and stimulating environment, where we provide world-class multi-disciplinary training.
-Experience in quantitative phospho-proteomics and/or in RNAi screening is desirable. Knowledge in cancer/tumour biology is advantageous.Despite many studies, it is still unclear if BRAF kinase only signals through MEK and CRAF or if it also phosphorylates other substrates.
