Two Postdoctoral Fellows, Environmental Epigenetics, Denmark
Fellowship for those students expertise and experience in nucleic acids related techniques and tissue culture
Study Subject: Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology
Employer: University of Copenhagen
Level: Postdoctoral
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) has been established at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to conduct research into basic metabolic functions. The center which consists of five scientific sections and a number of international research satellites was established through a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The position is in the section for Integrative Physiology headed by Juleen Zierath in the group for Environmental Epigenetics lead by Romain Barres.
Type 2 Diabetes is growing at pandemic rates worldwide, reflecting a synergic interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Epigenetics refers to heritable states of gene expression that are not due to changes in DNA sequence. Two major epigenetic processes, DNA methylation and histone modifications, form the molecular basis of epigenetics, principally by modulating the access of the transcription machinery to the chromatin. Previously, we showed that environmental factors such as diet participate in the etiology of T2D through epigenetic modifications in somatic tissues. The molecular mechanisms involved are yet to be identified. We are seeking two highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows with excellent skills in molecular biology, biochemistry and cellular biology, to dissect the molecular mechanisms involved in nutrient and exercise-induced epigenetic modifications in metabolic tissues.
