2 PhD Studentship (2 x 2 years) in the Field of Molecular Biophysics of DNA and Proteins, Belgium
2 PhD Studentship Position Scholarship for masters degree students for Departement of Physics at Hasselt University Belgium
Both mandates are situated within the project ‘Molecular wires – probing and understanding their electronic and mechanical properties’ funded by the Special Research Funds BOF of Hasselt University. The focus is on the understanding of the kinetics and dynamics of the interactions between DNA-fragments and between proteins (antibodies-antigens). Special attention goes to the characterization of individual molecules and therefore scanning-probe techniques such as atomic-force microscopy in acqueous solutions (bio AFM) play a central role within the project. Moreover, a detailed study will be performed on tuning the electronic and mechanical properties of DNA fragments and protein complexes by external factors such as temperature, pH, ionic strength, mechanical strain, and electric potentials. The project is based on a strongly interdisciplinary approach (physics – biochemistry – nanoscience) and involves close cooperation with other national and international research centres.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in conservation science at Los Angeles County Museum of ART, USA
Conservation Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is offering a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship for a scientist interested in contributing to the field of art conservation. This position reports to the Senior Conservation Scientist and works collaboratively with all conservation staff and curatorial departments.
Conservation Center’s research laboratory enjoys a reputation for excellence in both service and research and has a long tradition of providing training opportunities for young conservators and scientists interested in the care and preservation of paintings, works of art on paper, textiles, and three-dimensional objects. The fellow will be expected to participate in the daily activities of the laboratory including the technical examination of works of art using modern analytical equipment in the Center’s Research Laboratory (FTIR, XRD, XRF, UV-VIS, PLM, MFT and TL) while engaging in at least one significant research project on the conservation of modern materials in museum collections. This project will seek to develop preservation strategies for plastic objects in museum collections. All research will be carried out collaboratively with LACMA conservators and scientists and may include scientists from outside LACMA.
