Postdoctoral Position in Analysis of the Dynamics of the Social Link in the Online Exchanges, France Telecom, France
Research
The mission concerns the analysis of the dynamics of the social link in the online exchanges.
The mission joins within the framework of works on the various forms of sociability and their deployment on communication tools and online auto publication. The modeling of social graph allows drawing and analyzing large networks, to identify the communities which constitute them, and to unfold properties of nodes. These tools were recently applied successfully to the study of large social graphs, in particular built from phone calls or from online social platforms. A question still remains as for the qualification of the temporal evolution of these networks and these communities, beyond the comparison of snapshots of networks at the given time.
The expected research consists in establishing metrics for the description of the evolution of the social networks, in particular the communities and linkage dynamics, by using the classic tools of networks analysis. The metrics eventually have to constitute a new axis of the social graphs understanding relative to their temporal dynamics.
Once established, theses metrics have to help to focus the question of the nature of the links in the egocentered networks. They have to allow establishing a comparison of the various platforms, but also, within a platform data, to characterize the links according to the usage dynamics.
Two axes will be processed by the candidate:

PhD position in Molecular scale investigation of organic photovoltaics, at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona, Spain
We are looking for applicants for a PhD position (four years) at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) within a project aimed at a molecular scale investigation of photo-induced charge generation in organic photovoltaics.
The successful candidate will explore different donor-acceptor architectures at molecular scale using non-contact or contact Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV). The main objective is to establish an improved understanding of the structural and chemical properties of organic interfaces in relation with charge photogeneration. For this purpose a nc-AFM in UHV as well as an AFM in controlled atmosphere will be available. During the PhD it is contemplated stays at other laboratories abroad.
The candidate should have a Bachelor or Master degree (or equivalent) with good background in Physics and a strong interest in experimental work and analysis. Read more

Various academic posts in Synthetic Fuels Research, the SAIAMC at University of the Western Cape, South Africa
PetroSA Synthetic Fuels Research Centre
South African Institute for Advanced Materials Chemistry
University of the Western Cape
The PetroSA Synthetic Fuels Research Centre (PSFRC) represents a new type of partnership between Universities and industry in South Africa. PetroSA is relocating a significant part of its R&D effort to the SAIAMC at UWC, namely its conversion of olefins to distillate (COD) pilot plant and associated activities. The main research thrust will be directed towards improving process efficiency, the development of new catalysts, and to utilize new feed stocks. The PSFRC project was launched in April 2010 and hence the University of the Western Cape is seeking innovative and committed persons to fill several key positions.

Ruhr University Research School offers 12 PhD Grants, Germany
12 PhD Grants
RUB-Grants 2010 awarded within the framework of the Grant-Programme of the Ruhr University Research School
Scope of the programme
Promotion of early stage researchers by awarding grants to highly qualified doctoral candidates realising an ambitious and innovative research project in one of the research areas of Ruhr-University Bochum. We also encourage all doctoral candidates to apply for a grant with an interdisciplinary research project. The call is open for candidates from every scientific discipline and nationality intending to realise their research project at the Ruhr-University Bochum (you have to submit your doctoral thesis at Ruhr-Universität Bochum).
The application must be completed by the confirmation of a first supervisor at RUB – please build up contacts to one of the scientists at RUB and ask for supervision. You know best about your scientific main focus and in which special research field you want to obtain your doctorate. So please act independently: identify and contact a potential supervisor for your research project at an early stage of your application on your own.

Postdoctoral opportunity in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry (Rouen, France)
A postdoctoral opportunity is currently available at the Medical School of the University of Rouen, France, to study the molecular mechanisms underlying RNA splicing defects associated with hereditary diseases. Our ongoing projects focus on the physiopathology of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and of hereditary cancers such as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), and breast cancer. In particular, we are using a combination of molecular, biochemical and cellular approaches to identify and characterize exonic splicing regulatory elements in genes implicated in those pathologies.
