There is one Ph.D./Graduate student opening the research group of Prof. Nitin Chopra (NPG: http://www.unix.eng.ua.edu/~chopra/ ) in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MTE) Department at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, USA. The selected applicant can also be a part of Materials Science and Engineering Ph.D. program.
The research work will be focused on nanotechnology with an opportunity to gain experience in advanced materials fabrication/synthesis techniques. This may include work in graphene, nanowires, thin film deposition, electron microscopies, and other characterization methods. The Aspuru-Guzik group at the department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University is currently offering a one year (renewable to two years) postdoctoral position for a project on theoretical investigation of simulating physical/chemical systems with quantum computing devices.
The goal of the project is to design a practical quantum simulator involving models of quantum computation beyond the circuit model that are more amendable to currently available technologies. We are looking for candidates who have strong background in chemistry, physics, computer science and/or quantum information theory.
