Lilly Graduate Fellows Program supports, during the course of their graduate education, exceptionally well qualified young men and women who have bachelor degrees from LFP Network Schools and who are interested in becoming teacher-scholars at church-related colleges and universities in the United States.
The Three Year Program:
Each year, the Lilly Graduate Fellows Program selects a cohort of 16 fellows who are entering Ph.D. or equivalent graduate programs in humanities and arts at schools of their choosing. Lilly Fellowships are two-year residential fellowships for teacher-scholars who seek to renew and enrich their intellectual and spiritual lives while preparing for leadership roles at church-related institutions of higher learning. Each academic year, three Fellows are appointed for two-year periods. Fellowship program is targeted at developing a new generation of scholars able to analyze and make policy recommendations about the regional political economy in the Middle East, East, South, or Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. The Center invites candidates with a background in economics, political science, contemporary history, sociology, law, business, and other disciplines bearing on the study of markets, politics, and economic development, focusing on the regions of the Middle East, East, South, or Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America to apply. Scholarly work should explore the ways in which the politics within and between a set of countries intersect with natural resource endowments, market conditions, technological and physical infrastructure, and cultural biases to explain existing patterns of economic development and to promote higher levels of development more effectively. As part of SANBI’s Early Detection and Rapid Response Programme (funded through the Working for Water Programme of the Department of Water Affairs), several bursaries are available to conduct research on various aspects of managing new invasions.
A range of projects are available including topics on molecular phylogenetics, GIS mapping, taxonomy, population modelling, social science, history, mathematical ecology, and evolutionary biology. Submitted topics in line with EDRR’s goals will also be considered.
